Water Treatment & Environment

Clean water starts with oxygen. Whether it concerns process water from a dairy producer, wastewater from a meat processing company or a large basin at a water company, aeration plays a key role in almost every water treatment process. DOVAC supplies complete aeration installations, from energy-efficient blower to aerator on the bottom of the tank. We match the installation to factors such as water depth, required air capacity and the treatment process.

How biological treatment with air works

Bacteria play an important role in biological water treatment. Aerobic bacteria use oxygen to break down biodegradable contaminants in the water. By supplying enough oxygen, we support this natural treatment process. A blower pushes air to a frame of pipes on the bottom of the tank. There the air rises as fine bubbles that release oxygen to the water along the way. By placing aerators on or near the bottom, the air bubbles rise through a large part of the water column. In doing so, oxygen is transferred to the water and water movement is created. Especially in deep tanks, correct placement is important for good oxygen distribution and mixing.

Many food-related companies, such as dairy producers and slaughterhouses, have their own water treatment. Good biological pre-treatment can reduce the pollution load of the wastewater. Depending on the discharge situation and the applicable rates, this can contribute to lower costs for discharging wastewater. Aeration is also used outside industrial wastewater treatment, for example in certain steps of drinking water treatment and in the treatment of stored rainwater in horticulture. The purpose and the required installation differ per application.

Water Treatment & Environment

The role of aeration in environmental issues

Water treatment is not only about improving water quality, but also about limiting the impact on the environment. By treating wastewater biologically, organic contaminants can be broken down before the water is discharged or purified further. At the same time, aeration requires energy. With a well-matched combination of blower and aerator, DOVAC can help limit the energy required, without losing sight of the oxygen supply.

The challenges: energy, grid capacity and sizing

In many water treatment installations, aeration runs for long periods or almost continuously. As a result, energy consumption can make up a significant part of the operating costs. Traditional installations often require a considerable motor power per tank, and with several tanks the electricity bill quickly adds up. On top of that, on many industrial estates hardly any extra grid capacity is available. Anyone who wants to expand sometimes has to wait a long time for a heavier connection.

Common mistakes

Even an installation that does aerate can be set up incorrectly. Examples from practice:

  • One blower for two tanks with a different water depth. Without proper control, the air can distribute unevenly, with relatively more air flowing to the tank with the lowest back pressure. As a result, the deeper tank may not be aerated sufficiently.
  • A blower that is not matched to the water column. Water depth largely determines the required pressure. The required air capacity also depends on, among other things, the oxygen demand, the tank dimensions and the chosen aeration system.
  • No reserve capacity. If the aeration stops, water quality deteriorates quickly. The polluted water must then be removed, which entails high costs.

A good calculation in advance, suitable control and, where necessary, a reserve blower help limit these risks.

Our possibilities

  • Water Treatment & Environment

    Galex Air

The Galex Air Axion One is a compact, energy-efficient turbo blower for air knives, drying processes and the aeration of basins and baths. An integrated frequency controller precisely matches the air capacity to your application.

    Aerators

Aerators introduce a blower's air into the water as fine bubbles, preventing stagnation, bacterial growth and odour. We calculate the right choice and capacity in advance. The aerators will soon be added to our range; in the meantime, please view DOVAC\'s full product range or contact us.

Benefits for your business

What it delivers

  • Better support for the biological treatment process through targeted oxygen supply.
  • Opportunities to reduce energy consumption with a well-matched blower installation.
  • An installation that takes the available electrical capacity into account.
  • Greater operational reliability through a suitable set-up and, where necessary, reserve capacity.

The solution: turbo blower and aerator as one system

DOVAC's strength lies in the combination of blower and aerator. We look not only at the required air capacity, but also at the pressure, the oxygen demand and the way the air is distributed in the water. With energy-efficient blowers, such as the Galex Air Axion One or the Master Blower, we can limit energy consumption in many situations compared with less efficiently matched installations. For smaller tanks and basins, side channel blowers are a proven choice.

Every installation is calculated based on water depth, tank diameter and water volume. Several aerators in one tank are possible. For several tanks with different water depths, we look at how the air supply per tank can best be controlled. Depending on the installation, a separate blower per tank may be the best solution.

Service when it counts

A stalled aeration system cannot wait. DOVAC is available 24/7 in case of faults. Thanks to our technical knowledge, short lines of communication and extensive stock, we can often act quickly when an aeration installation fails.

Discuss your aeration installation

Do you want to improve water quality, make your existing aeration more energy-efficient or realise a new water treatment installation? DOVAC will think along with you about the water depth, required capacity and treatment process. Together we arrive at a blower and aeration solution that suits your installation.

Why choose DOVAC?
